Tanzania School of Missions (TSoM) began training students for mission work in July of 2004. The school was started under the leadership of Rev. Beda Mpumbe (pictured left) and is being assisted by Pastor Gene Cook, Jr. of Covenant Baptist Church in San Diego , Ca. ( www.cbcsandiego.org ) The first class of students began arriving by bus and on foot during the first week of July. Some had traveled for 10 hours on bus to attend this unique school.. TSoM is unique because it is an intense live-in program that includes 4 1/2 months of classroom training followed by a 1 month practicum in which the students are sent to various regions in groups of 3-4 students.

During the class room training period the students are taught, fed and housed 100% free of charge. During the first class of July 2004 we took in 12 students. Pastor Cook came with another pastor in September for two weeks and taught verse-by-verse through the book of Romans. Pastor William Austin III taught through the book of Genesis. These teachings can be heard on the audio link. The students were like sponges as they sat and soaked up the teaching of God's word and asked thought provoking questions. As of October 15th 2004 we already have 20 students that have registered for the January 2005 class! The maximum number of students that we have decided to receive at this time is 20.

The goals of the school are simple. It is to provide the basic training of students in the areas of ministry, church planting, theology and Christian living. These students are then sent out to various regions, some of which are virtually unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ for the purpose evangelism and church planting. As the students go out to these regions they take only what they can carry on foot and will walk sometimes 20 kilometers or more. As they begin to minister in a particular community or region they remain under the leadership, guidance and support of Rev. Mpumbe.

TSoM is currently funding the school through Pastor Cook . If you would like to sponsor a student you can provide the housing, education and training for $100 per month, per student.
